Wirt County
Formed in 1848 from Wood and Jackson counties. Named in honor of the lawyer William Wirt, author, orator, and statesman. In 1807 he was retained to aid the U.S. Attorney in the prosecution of Aaron Burr for treason. He later served as Attorney General of the United States
