Tennessee is one of 50 states of USA. It is located in the southeastern region of the country. Tennessee is bordered by eight states: Kentucky and Virginia to the north; North Carolina to the east; Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi to the south; Arkansas and Missouri to the west. The capital of Tennessee is Nashville, which is also its largest city. Other major cities include Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Clarksville, Murfreesboro, Jackson, Johnson City and Franklin. The state’s nickname is “The Volunteer State,” a reference to the volunteer soldiers who fought in the War of 1812.

Vanderbilt University
The private Vanderbilt University in the city of Nashville was founded in 1873 and is one of the most famous universities in the State of Tennessee and one of the best universities in the USA. Vanderbilt University is a member of the Association of American Universities, an association of research-intensive North American universities. The campus of the university, designed as a botanical garden, is certainly of particular interest to tourists. Al Gore and Muhammad Yunus also studied at Vanderbilt University. University of Memphis
The State University of Memphis was founded in 1912 as the West Tennessee State Normal School and renamed Memphis State University in 1941. There are currently approximately 22,000 students studying, making the University of Memphis the largest university in Tennessee. The university campus is located in Memphis. Oak Ridge National Laboratory
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the city of Oakridge is an important scientific and technological laboratory that is subordinate to the United States Department of Energy. It was founded in 1943 for uranium enrichment for the Manhattan Project. For example, the famous X-10 Graphite Reactor, the second nuclear reactor in the world, was located on the site of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the first to be built for continuous operation. This reactor, which was decommissioned in 1963, has been on the list of National Historic Landmarks since 1966. Nowadays you can find the Cray XT-5, which is one of the best supercomputers worldwide.
