I have witnessed many LED strips facilities with various types of tape and in various scenarios and needs. The results, in general, are good. Even with no experience can venture into this task, and I might add, it is very tasty. However, with some care and information, the most common mistakes can be avoided.
The objective of this article is to share experiences in a very objective manner on the installation of LED strips. I still say it’s a collection of tips and best practices, with the following topics:

LED Tape Installation Unicolor
For this installation you need a tape LED (1), 12V power source (2) and a P4 type connector (3). See itypetravel:
Installation steps: Make the connection of the P4 connector on LED ribbon wires, according to the polarity the red wire to (+) terminal and the black wire to (-) terminal next, insert the plug from the source into the connector as. below:
Ready! It’s that simple. The complete installation can be seen in the image below:
If your kit is composed of a switching power supply, the work is almost the same, and the end result would be as the image below:
Note the detail of the connection of the terminals of the power supply above: the left yarns are for feeding in 110V or 220V, and right yarns are of LED strip – it is in this last respect the polarity, ie connect the red thread on the screw (+) and the black wire to the screw (-).
LED Tape Installation Unicolor with Mini Dimmer
For this installation you need an LED ribbon roll (1), a power source (2), a female P4 connector for the power supply and mini dimmer, as follows:
The first step is to connect the mini dimmer input wires P4 in connector (1) and then connecting the output of the dimmer mini LED ribbon wire (2). See below:
Note that the images below the mini dimmer input has 12V indication (+) and (-). This side must be connected to the P4 female connector. Since the output of the dimmer mini has the identifying LED (+) and (-). This side should be turned on the tape led.
Another important detail: See the picture above, on the left, the mini dimmer on the label has one button labeled “color”, which is incorrect because this product is unicolor. The label on the right is correct, with the “light” identification. Unfortunately these two types of labels (among others) are found on the market.
Once the installation is complete, the kit will be conformed to the image below:
Optional: if you want a more professional installation, or when the tape LED does not have the wire, the connection between the LED ribbon and mini dimmer can be made by welding. To do this follow these steps:
Remove the original tape of the insulating protection (insulation known as spaghetti, step 1). Then, with the soldering iron remove the original wires (2). Then solder the wires of the mini dimmer (3). Be aware of the polarity of the mini dimmer, in particular (4).
Cut Tape LED Unshielded
Every LED strip may be cut according to necessity. There identifications along the LED ribbon indicating the cutoffs. Find the point and close cut as you want and make the cut with a common scissors (1). Each end of each piece of cut tape must contain the connection terminals (2). With a soldering iron, tin all connection terminals (3), even if it is not necessary to weld them imediado. The goal is to prevent oxidation.
Splice LED Tape with Soldering Iron
To amend by soldering, the LED tape pieces should be the same type. Bring the two ends to be welded (1). Move the tip of the soldering iron in a form of terminals of the two drops join tin (2). Repeat the process for the two terminals (3).
Cutting LED Reinforced Tape
The cutting process is the same used for the tape unshielded. Just an ordinary scissors for cutting. From there the process is a bit more work. The terminals for soldering are protected by silicone, and a stylus must be used to cut a slice of silicine that is on terminals (2). The piece removed appears below (3).
Mend Armored LED Tape with Soldering Iron
Once exposed, the terminals need to be scraped with the stylus as often being oxidized by silicon (1). After scraping can see the glow of copper (2). With the tip of the soldering iron, tin terminals (3). Now the piece of tape is ready to receive the wires (4).
To amend, follow the same process as for amendment of unshielded ribbons. LED Ribbon Collage in panels or mirrors before gluing the ribbon pass a damp cloth in place to prevent the glue drop with time. Measure tape and cut the exact size. The lED panel for ribbon installation must have a clearance from the wall, which may vary from 3 to 6 centimeters. The tape should be glued behind the panel and the light source (LED) pointing directly to the wall.
