Although Android N and even next year’s Android O not even launched, Google can already indirectly have announced what Nexus devices that can be upgraded.
Google is still in full swing to finish developing the upcoming Android N-software that are released in its finished form over the next three months. At the present time it is unknown which of Google’s own Nexus-smartphones and tablets, which can be upgraded to the next software.
It enables it giant, however, may well even have given answers to indirect thanks to a support pagethat shows until when the individual Nexus products are guaranteed to receive the Android software upgrades.
Google has a policy that its Nexus-smartphones and tablets will be upgraded in at least two years, which typically corresponds to that received two new, major Android versions. There follows an extra year with security updates, which, however, does not change on the Android version that is installed.
|UNIT||NO GUARANTEED UPDATE OF ANDROID VERSION AFTER|
|Nexus 6 p||September 2017|
|Nexus 5 x||September 2017|
|Nexus 9||October 2016|
|Nexus 6||October 2016|
|Nexus 5||October 2015|
|Nexus 7 (2013)||July 2015|
|Nexus 10||November 2014|
With the new information from Google can it is suggested which Nexus-products that are eligible to receive the upcoming Android N-software and even Android O, which can be assumed to follow next year.
Sure it is at least that neither Nexus 10, Nexus 7 (2013) or Nexus 5 gets Android N when they received the last software upgrade in november 2014, respectively, July 2015 and October 2015. They have therefore all been given two software upgrades.
Doubtful about Nexus Nexus 6 and 9 will get Android N
Nexus and Nexus 6 9 were both launched in mid-October 2014 with Android 5.0 Lollipop. They have received the minor software upgrade to Android 5.1 Lollipop and later the greater for Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It is therefore doubtful whether the two phones will get Android N.
It is partly due to the lack of clarity as to whether Android 5.1 was a big enough software upgrade to count as one of the two, which are typically received and partly because it is unknown at this time whether Android N when being released before the warranty for software upgrades to Nexus and Nexus 6 9 shall come to an end in the middle of the month of October.
According to the current plan says Android N for to be released in either July, august or september. Last year Google also promised to be finished with the beta version of Android M in 3. quarter, but had to postpone it a bit, so that the first deployment came in the beginning of the month of October.
However, it is important to note that Nexus products are guaranteed at least two years of software upgrades, and it is therefore not entirely unlikely that Google extends and gives the two units one last upgrade before it is over.
Nexus and Nexus 6 p 5 x sheep with security Android N
Unlike the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 can there be no little doubt that both the Nexus and Nexus 6 p 5 x from last year will receive Android N.
They are for guaranteed new Android software until september 2017, and thus it is also as good as certain that both will be upgraded further to the next Android O-software for just over a year’s time.
