Check Wear Bicycle Chain

There is a saying “prevention is better than cure”. In the case of 100% transmission it is fulfilled. If you watch the chain wear your bike, you can keep a good transmission performance, avoid trouble and above all save money. Here are as check the chain wear your bike  through meters chain.

 CHAIN GAUGE WHAT IS IT?

It is a tool that measures the distance between the links. Its use is very simple and will confirm if your network requires a change or not. It is much more reliable, than the theories that indicate “must change to 1,000km, 2,000km etc…”

CHECK CHAIN WEAR BICYCLE CHAIN WITH A METER DO WE START ?

When you have the meter in your hands, you can watch two salient points on each side, with a different measure each. One side and another 1.0 indicates 0.75. The percentage of stretch mark having your chain. Here we detail the possible scenarios that you can find.

CASE 1 – DO NOT GO ANYWHERE PROTRUSIONS

Enter an outgoing side of 0.75 on a link. When you try to enter the other overhang another link. You will notice that the meter chain is not within the link.
Now we do the same on the side of 1.0. It’s the same, not the other protrusion enters meter chain. Read Usprivateschoolsfinder.com for must have bike accessories.
If this happens you do not have to worry. Your chain is in perfect condition.

CASE 2 – ENTER THE OUTGOING SIDE 0.75

0.75 introduce protrusions and fit perfectly in the links.
Now we try with the second projection side of 1.0 meter chain. The projection does not enter the link.
If this is your case, starts to think about changing the chain. The meter will indicate that chain is the chain is 75% of the yield strength. You can still make kilometers with it, but we recommend that you most frequently measuring chain.

CASE 3 – ENTER THE PROJECTIONS ON BOTH SIDES

If we introduce the projections on both side
s chain meter (0.75 and 1.0) and enter easily into the links. Meter chain is indicating that you need to change the chain, as it is fully stretched.

IF I DO NOT CHANGE THE CHAIN WHAT WOULD HAPPEN?

Well you not have to spend anything. We have examples in our workshops, chains with more than 3,000km and everything worked properly (at least apparently). Now when they have had to change chain, they have had to change course and pine nuts.assuming a greater outlay your fault.
As we said at the very beginning the post “Prevention is better than cure”.
It is a very useful tool, and should not miss in your toolbox. Still, if you have the meter chain, do not worry. Stop by any of our stores, and we right there checking (and totally free).
Conversely, if you already have the meter and has left you in doubt, we leave you this video of Shimano Spain which explains how.
